Pakistan fixes sugar price at Rs 99 per kg

Lahore: The retail price of sugar has been fixed at Rs 98.82 per kg across the country by the Ministry of Food Security and Research (MNFS&R) based on the recommendation of the Sugar Advisory Board (SAB) and the ministry has issued a notification in this regard.

As per the notification, the Pakistan Government has implemented the ‘Price Control and Prevention of Profiteering and Hoarding Order 2021’ under the ‘Price Control and Prevention of Profiteering and Hoarding Act, 1977’.

The price of sugar has increased by over 30% in the current month, mentions the notice. Hence it is necessary to regulate the price of the sweetener in the interest of the people, it said.

SAB has asked the Pakistan Sugar Mills Association (PSMA) and provinces to provide their feedback by Thursday, April 20th 2023, on fixing sugar prices.
