Pakistan govt to introduce new law to ensure mills start sugarcane crushing on time

The Pakistan government is planning to introduce a new law that will fine sugar mills Rs 5 million per day for delay in cane crushing. The government is in discussion with the provincial government to enact the law. At present, the mills are fined Rs 20,000 for the delay in cane crushing for the entire season.

Shibli Faraz, Minister of Information and Broadcasting shared the information with a press on Wednesday.

Faraz also outlined a target to reduce sugar prices by at least PRK20-25 (US$ 0.12 to 0.15) per kilogram on August 12.
