Pakistan: Sugar mill officials booked over non-payment to sugarcane farmers

Okara: Due to non-payment to sugarcane farmers and violation of an agreement made for the payment, two officers, including General Manager of an Abdullah sugar mill, were booked.

According to officials, a delegation of farmers met Assistant Commissioner Deepalpur Khalid Abbas Sial and informed him that the mill has not yet paid the dues worth Rs 17 crore to 1152 farmers and Rs 6 crore government dues up to Dec 31, which have to be paid by the mill according to the agreement reached between the government and Kissan representatives.

Following this the government officials initiated action and police arrested two mill officials Iftikhar Ahmad and Nadeem Gill. Police informed they are booked under the Land Revenue Act, said police.
