Pakistan Sugar Mills Association demands permission from government to export excess sugar

Lahore: After getting into the bracket of surplus, the Pakistan Sugar Mills Association (PSMA) has demanded the government to allow it to export excess sweetener, reports local media.

PSMA spokesperson claimed that the sugar production in the country during the ongoing crushing season has reached a record 7.51 million tonnes. The government received a huge amount of taxes from the sugar industry as it was not exempted from any tax.

Recently, Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Shaukat Tarin had tweeted that sugar production is likely to increase by 2 million tonnes from last year to 7.5 million tonnes. As a result, Pakistan is back to a sugar surplus country from the deficit.
