Pakistan to import 157,000 tonnes of sugar

Islamabad, Pakistan: To meet the domestic need, Pakistan is focusing on sugar importation. The Provincial province cabinet has allowed the Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) and Pakistan’s Punjab Food Department to import 151,700 tonnes of sugar. The decision was taken on a Tuesday’s meeting organized by the Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar in his office. The meeting was attended by several officials related to the concerned departments.

According to private dealers, the sugar stocks of 0.445 million tonnes are available till November 4 in Punjab and 0.565 million tonnes sugar would be available on November 9 in Sindh.

The sugarcane crushing in Punjab will start in the first week of November. The government warns of imposing a penalty on the millers for the delay in starting cane crushing. The sugarcane crushing in Sindh would start by mid-November.
