Pending cane arrears: BKU threatens to launch an agitation

Shamli, Uttar Pradesh: Sugarcane farmers under the banner of Bhartiya Kisan Union have threatened to launch an agitation if the sugar mills fail to clear their dues before starting of the crushing season. The decision was taken in a meeting organised by BKU recently.

According to the news report published in Livehindustan.com, Kapil Khatiyan, district unit head of the organisation said, “The festival season is approaching and farmers are not having enough funds to celebrate the festival. The sugar mills are saying that they don’t have money to clear the pending arrears.”

“If sugar mills fail to clear the pending dues then on October 29 a protest will be organised to press our demands,” he further added.
