Pending sugarcane dues: Nepal farmers to relaunch protest

Kathmandu: Sugarcane farmers from across the country have decided to relaunch their agitation against the government for pending cane dues worth Rs 650 million. According to the government officials, the mills have so far paid them Rs 470 million pending dues.

Farmers in December 2020 had gathered at Kathmandu and launched an agitation demanding pending cane dues. After 21 days of agitation, the government signed an agreement with farmers assuring them to clear their dues in time. The Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies was asked to co-ordinate the cane dues payments.
