Philippines: Bureau of Customs seizes P86-million smuggled sugar

The Bureau of Customs (BoC) Port of Subic seized P86-million sugar that was smuggled from Hong Kong on March 15, reports Manila Times.

The action was taken by a team of BoC Intelligence Group led by Deputy Commissioner Juvymax Uy and Deputy Commissioner Teddy Sandy Raval of the Enforcement Group.

A total of 15,648 sacks of refined sugar were examined by the BoC offices in the presence of the representatives of the Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA) and Martin, Department of Agriculture Assistant Secretary James Layug.

Customs Commissioner Bienvenido Rubio said, “The efforts of The Bureau of Customs to combat illicit goods at the border are helping us to keep a check on the illegal activities that are ultimately helping our partner agencies.”
