Philippines: Four migratory sugarcane workers test positive for coronavirus

Four migratory workers (sacadas) that arrived in the Antique province to work in the sugarcane fields were tested positive for coronavirus.

Confirming this, Dr. Zeaphard, Caelian, head of the Provincial incident Command Team stated that they were the part of the first batch of 300 labourers that arrived here on October 9.

He said that the patients have been shifted to an isolated place in Silay City and are under observation. The batch of remaining workers is tested negative and is ready to work in the cane fields.

“We have taken swabs of the next batch of sacadas that arrived in the Bacold City and are awaiting the results of their tests,” he said.

The second batch of 110 farm labourers arrived here early on Monday to work in the farms located in Binalbagan, Isabela, La Castellana and the city of La Carlota.
