Manila: Philippines Government seized 1,100 metric tons (MT) sugar that was smuggled to Subic port from Thailand. According to the Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA) 22,000 bags each of 50 Kg were found in shipping containers.

Roland Beltran, SRA Board member, told the leading website that the shipment was being carried as floor mats and plastic covers.

“Acting on a tip-off, 35 shipping containers which were supposed to carry floor mats apprehended and found holding 12,000 bags of sugar,” he said.

The shipments were consigned to JRFP International Trading, which holds office in Tondo, Manila. Beltran said the company is not a registered sugar trader as verified by the SRA
