Pilibhit: Sugarcane survey complete, cultivation fall by 1 per cent

Pilibhit: The sugarcane survey work in the Terai region’s district has been completed. The figures for the sugarcane survey have been released. There has been a decrease of one percent in the sugarcane acreage in the districts. Several reasons, including excessive rainfall and other factors, are being attributed to this decline.

Within the district, the following sugar mills are currently operational: L.H. Sugar Mill in Pilibhit, Kisan Sahakari Sugar Mill in Purnapur, Kisan Sahakari Sugar Mill in Bisalpur, and Bajaj Hindusthan Limited Mill in Barkhera. The sugarcane survey commenced on April 15 in the district, utilizing GPS technology and involving 154 teams, which covered a total of 1,315 villages. Each team consisted of representatives from the Sugarcane Development Department and the respective sugar mills.

The survey encompassed different areas, with 54,150 hectares surveyed in Pilibhit, 19,298 hectares in Barkhera, 11,083 hectares in Bisalpur, and 8,868 hectares in Purnapur, resulting in a combined total of 105,387 hectares. In comparison, the previous year saw sugarcane cultivation across 105,877 hectares. This year witnessed a one percent decrease in the total area used for sugarcane cultivation.
