Punjab cooperative sugar mills release Rs. 62 crore to sugarcane farmers

Chandigarh: Following the instructions issued by Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, cooperative sugar mills have released an amount of Rs 62 crore to the sugarcane farmers. The remaining Rs 100 crore will be released soon.

Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, Punjab Cooperative Minister released a press communique stating that the state government released Rs 50 crore and the cooperative mills released Rs 12 crore from their own to the farmers.

“The millers have cleared all the cane arrears for the crushing season 2018-19 and the remaining arrears for the season 2019-20 amounting to Rs 100 crore would be paid soon,” he further added.

Earlier, raising the voice against the delay in cane payments by the ruling Congress government in Punjab, its own party leaders had taken up the issue with the government. Rajya Sabha MP Partap Singh Bajwa and three MLAs had written a letter to Chief Minister Amarinder Singh to address the issue on a priority basis.
