Punjab government ensuring sugar mills pay cane arrears to sugarcane farmers

Chandigarh: Issue over sugarcane arrears in Punjab is escalating. Raising the voice against the delay in cane payments by the ruling Congress government in Punjab, its own party leaders had taken up the issue with the government. Rajya Sabha MP Partap Singh Bajwa and three MLAs have written a letter to Chief Minister Amarinder Singh to address the issue on a priority basis.

Talking to media through a video conference, Singh assured that the state government would soon clear its dues of the cooperative sugar mills and was also pressurising the private mill owners to pay off their dues to the farmers.

Bajwa had also shared a video on Twitter, where he alleged that the party is not taking any steps to address the farmers’ issues to clear the pending arrears worth Rs 681 crore.
