Punjab: Minister orders to release Rs 1.05 to sugarcane farmers from Sangrur

Chandigarh: On Thursday, Punjab Agriculture Minister Gurmeet Singh Khudian issued instructions to the department officials, directing the transfer of Rs 1.05 crore into the bank accounts of sugarcane farmers from the Sangrur area by January 22, reported The Times of India.

Additionally, he urged the Sangrur deputy commissioner to ensure the timely disbursement of the outstanding payment, around Rs 6.95 crore, from Bhagwanpura Sugar Mill to farmers by the end of this month.

The minister addressed these matters during a meeting with the Sangrur district administration, the management of M/s Bhagwanpura Sugar Mill in Dhuri, and representatives of Ganna Kashatkar Sangharsh Committee, Dhuri. He emphasized the importance of preventing any undue hardships for farmers in selling their produce due to unfair practices.

During the discussion, the Sangrur authorities informed the minister that around 2 lakh quintals of sugarcane from Bhagwanpura Sugar Mill had been crushed through mills located in Amloh, Budhewal, Mukerian, and Nakodar, as the Dhuri unit remained non-operational.
