Punjab: Sugarcane farmers ask government to order sugar mills to commence crushing operations

Jalandhar: Members of Doaba Kisan Committee on Wednesday expressed anger against the government for not being able to start the operations of private or cooperative sugar mills to date, reports Tribune India.

Jangveer Singh, state president of the Doaba Kisan Committee said, “Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann had assured the farmers’ organisations that the sugar mill would start operations by November 15, but not a single mill has started operations.”

The farmers have threatened to stage agitation outside the residences of AAP MLAs from November 11 if no mills make any announcement regarding operations.
