Punjab: Sugarcane farmers stage protest for pending cane arrears

Mukerian, Punjab: Sugarcane farmers organisation staged a protest in front of Mukerian Sugar mill for their pending cane arrears. Cane growers sought payment of R 55.31 crore outstanding dues.

According to the news report published in Tribuneindia.com, the protesters warned that they would intensify their agitation in future if the sugar mill fails to clear their pending arrears within 15 days.

The agitating farmers gathered under the banner of Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Samiti, Punjab and Kisan Mazdoor Hitkar Sabha, Mukerian and surrounded the office sugar mill management and demanded to settle their dues.

Sugar mill officials assured the farmers that all dues would be paid by October end.
