Punjab: Sugarcane farmers to get free seed of high yield varieties

Chandigarh: To help the farmers reeling under financial stress, cooperative sugar mills from Punjab have come forward to provide free seed of high yielding varieties to sugarcane cultivators in the state.

Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, cooperative minister of the state stated that the step will relieve farmers from some financial burden that has resulted due to lockdown while launching the distribution of the seeds of high yielding varieties to the cane growers through video conferencing at Batala Cooperative Sugar Mill.

The Cooperative sugar mills have prepared good quality seeds that will help in increasing the yield of cane farmers. The Covid-19 crisis has impacted all the economic activities including agricultural related activities, he said.
