Punjab: Sugarcane farmers to get sugar at Rs 2,500 per quintal from cooperative sugar mills

Chandigarh: Amid Coronavirus outbreak, the sugarcane growers will get sugar at the incentive rate of Rs 2,500 per quintal from cooperative sugar mills, announced Punjaib Cooperation minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa.

The instructions have been issued to all the nine cooperative mills of Punjab to immediately provide sugar to the cane growers. Minister said that the bills will be adjusted from the pending dues.

As per media report, Puneet Goyal, Sugarfed managing director said that the initiative would help farm workers and migrant labourers to procure incentive sugar for their domestic use along with the cane farmers.

Punjab is also hit by Coronavirus. The distilleries in Punjab have started manufacturing sanitizers on the request of the state government. This comes in the backdrop of the high demand of sanitizers in the market during the COVID-19 outbreak and subsequent lockdown.
