Roller Flour Millers’ Federation of India urges to continue wheat ban

The Roller Flour Millers’ Federation of India has stated that the ban on exports of wheat and wheat products like atta, maida, and suji should continue even in FY2023-24, reports Economic Times.

Pramod Kumar S, President, of the Roller Flour Millers’ Federation of India, said, “The closing balance for wheat will be at its lowest this year in India and a continuing ban on wheat exports would help in restoring the stock.”

According to the Federation, there would be a harvest of 106-110 million tonnes this year despite excessive rainfall and early summer in wheat-growing areas. The government is expected to procure 340 lakh tonnes of wheat after cooling off the prices of the commodity.

The Open Market Sales Scheme (Domestic) that was announced on January 26, 2023, has helped in lowering the prices of wheat and wheat products by Rs 600-800 per quintal giving relief to the common people and industry, he said.

The prices of wheat and wheat flour have fallen by Rs 6-8 per kg in wholesale as well as retail markets due to the several steps taken by the government, said Kumar.

The prices of Atta are hovering around Rs 2600-300 per quintal as against Rs 3400-3800 per quintal in the mid of January 2023.
