Kanpur: Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti, Hon’ble Minister of State, Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution and Rural Development, Government of India, reviewed the working of National Sugar Institute, Kanpur today. Prof. Narendra Mohan, Director, National Sugar Institute detailed her about the current teaching, research and consultancy activities of the institute. The institute has made its presence in various sugar producing countries and we have received proposals from Cameroon and Indonesia for conducting training programme for the technical staff working in the sugar factories. In addition to it, request has been received from Nigeria to evaluate the present status of their master plan in respect of sugar industry, said Prof. Mohan.
Expressing her satisfaction over the working of the institute, Hon’ble Minister of State, Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution and Rural Development, Government of India desired that institute should give a wider publicity of its courses in rural areas and should conduct short duration training programmes so that the technologies developed by the institute may be taken by the entrepreneurs from lab to commercial scale. Setting up of small industries in rural areas shall bring prosperity and job opportunities in rural areas, she said. Side by side, the sugarcane farmers should be motivated to adopt newer varieties and go in for farming in a scientific manner.
She also expressed her concern over many faculty positions lying vacant and assured for urgent action from the end of the ministry.
