Saharanpur: Farmers urged to use new sugarcane varieties

Saharanpur: A farmer workshop was held at Triveni Sugar Mill on Thursday, where sugarcane department officials encouraged farmers to adopt the latest sugarcane varieties for planting, reported Live Hindustan.

District Cane Officer Sushil Kumar emphasized the need to replace the disease-prone CO-0238 variety with resilient alternatives like CO-15023 and CO-0118.

Unit Head of the sugar mill, Pushkar Mishra, provided detailed instructions on timely fertilizer and pesticide application, weeding, and overall crop maintenance for optimal sugarcane yield and quality.

Mishra also highlighted the mill’s commitment to timely sugarcane payments, noting that all purchases made up to February 19th have been settled. He encouraged farmers to continue supplying their sugarcane directly to the mill.

Senior Cane Advisor Dr. S.K. Pandey outlined the various farmer-centric initiatives and facilities offered by the sugar mill.

The workshop was well-attended by local farmers, who received valuable insights on new sugarcane varieties and cultivation practices.
