Sanjivani sugar factory will not be shut down permanently: Deputy CM Kavlekar

Porvorim, Goa: The state government is taking steps to revive the closed Sanjivani sugar mill and we will not let the mill shut permanently, said Deputy Chief Minister Babu Kavlekar.

According to the news report published in Heraldgoa.in, he said, “Two consultants have also been appointed to prepare the detailed project report (DPR). The government is buying sugarcane from farmers and paying them. We have disbursed Rs 7.67 crore to the sugarcane cultivators till date and cases of 130 farmers is under process and they too would be paid soon.”

The factory located at Dharbandora is the only sugar factory in the state. It is reeling under financial stress due to maintenance and old machinery problems. In last season, the mill failed to operate and the government had sent state’s cane to the sugar mill in Karnataka for crushing.
