Season 2021-2022: Sugar production in Maharashtra likely to set new record

Pune: Sugar production in Maharashtra is likely to set a new record this season as the output is expected to be above 120 lakh tonnes.

The crushing season has entered its final stage with sugar mills ending the crushing season. According to the state sugar commissionerate, till March 9, 2022, six sugar mills in the state have ended the season, all from the Kolhapur division.

Total 197 sugar mills participated in the cane crushing operation during the ongoing season. These mills have produced 1044.06 lakh quintal sugar by crushing 1012.07 lakh tonne sugarcane with a recovery rate of 10.32 per cent.

Recently Indian Sugar Mills Association (ISMA) had revised its sugar production estimate for 2021-22 season for Maharashtra as 126 lakh tonnes (after diversion into ethanol), against 117 lakh tonnes estimated in its 2nd advance estimates.
