Sensex hits 42,000 for first time

Mumbai: Sensex on Thursday scaled the 42,000 mark and Nifty hit its record peak in opening session tracking positive cues from global equities after the US and China signed an initial trade deal.

Sensex today on January 16 was trading 127.65 points higher at 42,000.38. Similarly NSE Nifty was trading 28.45 points up at 12,371.75.

Similarly, at 10:15 am, Sensex was trading at 41,995.95 points.

Sun Pharma, Nestle India, HUL, Kotak Bank, UltraTech Cement, Bajaj Auto and Bharti Airtel were the top gainer in the Sensex pack. On the other hand, IndusInd Bank, Tata Steel, NTPC, Titan, Mahindra and Mahindra, Tech Mahindra, ONGC and Asian Paints were top losers.

On the currency front, the rupee appreciated 5 paise to 70.77 against the US dollar in morning session.
