Sensex, Nifty open higher; RIL surges 4 per cent

Mumbai: Sensex today on Wednesday was trading 177.67 points higher at 40,647.37, while NSE Nifty surged 40.65 points at 11,980.75 in morning trade.

Similarly, at 10:15 am, Sensex was trading at 40,736 points, and Nifty was trading at 12,013 points.

Shares of Reliance Industries (RIL) rallied nearly 4 per cent to hit their lifetime high of Rs 1,571 (intra-day), inching closer to the Rs 10 lakh crore market-capitalisation level.

IndusInd Bank, Sun Pharma, L&T, Bharti Airtel, TCS, Maruti and Bajaj Finance were among the top gainers.

Yes Bank, Bajaj Auto, NTPC, Infosys, ITC, Kotak Bank and HUL were among the top losers today.

On the currency front, the rupee depreciated 7 paise (intra-day) against the US dollar to trade at 71.79 in early session.
