Shiromani Akali Dal asks Punjab CM to ensure private sugar mills clear cane arrears

Chandigarh: Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) has raised the issue of pending cane arrears of sugarcane farmers and asked Punjab chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh to ensure that private sugar mill managements clear the outstanding payment of Rs 383 crore

Sikander Singh Maluka, newly appointed president of farmer wing of SAD “The state government has asked the Sugarfed and the finance department to clear cane dues from cooperative sugar mills which is around Rs 299 crore but no effort are being made to direct the private sugar mills to clear the outstanding dues.”

Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Friday directed Sugarfed to pay Rs 149 crore for clearing sugarcane arrears of cooperative sugar mills. Apart from this, Finance Department sanctions Rs 150 crore for making outstanding payments of farmers.
