Southwest Monsoon very likely to set in over Kerala in next 48 hours: MET

Thiruvananthapuram, June 6, UNI: Southwest Monsoon is very likely to set in over Kerala during the next 48 hours, Meteorological Centre here said on Thursday.

In a release, It said a low-pressure area is very likely to form over southeast and adjoining east central Arabian Sea off Kerala­ and Karnataka coast around June 9.

It is likely to move north­ northwestwards and intensify gradually, the release added.

The east ­west shear zone now runs roughly along Lat. 8°N between 3.1 and 3.6 km above mean sea level across Lakshadweep, ­Maldives and the ­Comorin area.

It is very likely to shift northwards gradually. In addition, an off shore trough is very likely to develop around June 8, off Maharashtra coast to Kerala coast.

Thunderstorm and lightning accompanied with gusty wind (30-40 Kmph) at isolated places is very likely on June 6, 7 and 8 over Kerala, the release said.

Thunderstorm accompanied with rain and gusty winds with speed reaching 30-40 kmph is likely in Idukki and Pathanamthitta districts this evening, the release said
