Sri Lanka: Government to sell sugar stocks at concessionary prices

Colombo: Sugar stocks stuck at the Port will be sold at the concessionary rate, said Minister Rohitha Abeygunawardena.

Rear Admiral Ananda Peiris, Chairman, Sathosa said that the government will purchase the sugar stock stranded at the port and will sell them to the public at concession rates.

The decision was taken in a meeting organised under the patronage of Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa that was attended by other ministers.
The Prime Minister highlighted the increase in the cost of living of people and directed the officials to take immediate steps to take charge of the sugar stock stuck at ports and sell them to people at a low rate through Sathosa.

Speaking with the media Minister Rohitha Abeygunawardena said that the government is taking all the necessary steps to clear the stocks at port and sell them to people at a cheap rate.
