Sugar mill in scam

Kaithal, Mar 20 (UNI) A team of state vigilance bureau reached in Kaithal Cooperative Sugar Mill here on Tuesday to probe infamous chip scam and various other irregularities which had taken place in the past.

The sugar cane farmers under the banner of Akhil Bhartiya Kisan Sangh has been demanding an investigation in various irregularities in the mill. Though the matter was raised few months ago and union had spearheaded an agitation and SIT of district police was constituted to reach the bottom of scam in which a chip was installed on the weighing machine of mill which showed lesser quantity of sugarcane brought in Trolly and trucks in the crushing season. Some farmers raised this issue when weight of sugar cane was found less on mill weighing machine (Kanta) as compared was weighed at private weighing machine.

The farmers had pointed that some employees were involved in this cheating of farmers resulting in to huge financial loss to them. Two employees were suspended but the scam could not be unearthed by SIT.

The union had also demanded investigation for huge expenditure amounting to Rs 6.63 crores on repairs in Mill within a span of just Twenty days.

The team today talked to some employees and staff of Mill and also inspected the weighing machine. Inspector Bhupinder Singh Incharge SVB team said that their office had received the file only two days back and they would investigate this case and try to reach to the bottom of scam if any.
