Sugar mills should promote use of drip irrigation for sugarcane crops: Minister Dadasaheb Bhuse

Mumbai: Focusing on water conservation and increasing the quality of sugarcane, the sugar mills in the state should promote use of drip irrigation for sugarcane cultivation, said Agriculture Minister Dadasaheb Bhuse.

Addressing the representatives of agriculture universities and sugarcane promoters and experts in a meeting on Wednesday he said, “The sugar mills should launch a drive to promote drip irrigation for sugarcane cultivation. We should find ways to increase the quality and yield of the crop with the available area under cane cultivation.”

“Drip irrigation for cane cultivation will help in conserving water. More than 200 sugar mills are operating in Maharashtra and if all take up the drive to promote drip irrigation, we would bring a major transformation in the sugar sector,” he said.
