Sugar production in European Union may rise in 2021-22 season

European Union’s (EU) sugar production is likely to rise in the season 2021-22. European Commission in a short-term outlook report on Tuesday said, “Sugar output in EU is estimated to increase in 2021-22 season. It will also lead to a hike in sweetener stocks.”

According to the EU’s executive, sugar production in the previous season was 14.5 million tonnes, whereas in the 2021-22 season it is forecasted to increase 15.5 million tonnes.”

As per the report, Covid-19 has impacted sugar consumption. It declined in the season 2020-21 to 14.8 million tonnes, down from 16.4 million tonnes in the previous season. In 2021-22, sugar consumption is expected to be stable at 14.8 million tonnes.
