Sugar production in Philippines reaches at 2.134 million metric tonnes

The latest data released by the Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA) shows that the sugar output has reached 2.134 million metric tonnes (MMT) up to June 27, which is flat compared to the previous year’s output.
The latest data has surpassed the revised projection of sugar output of 2.101 MMT for the crop year 2020-2021 ending on August 31.

Sugarcane milled in the current crop year is the highest in the last four years, according to SRA data. The volume of sugarcane milled as of June 27 expanded by 8.32 per cent to 25.142 MMT from last year’s 23.211 MMT.

The sugar crop in the country starts every September and ends in August. It must be recalled that recently SRA had cancelled the 7 per cent export allocation to the US for the current crop year and diverted 100 per cent production for the domestic need.
