India is likely to witness bumper sugar production this season, but Uttar Pradesh has registered a dip in its sweetener output.
According to government data, sugar mills in UP have produced 90.06 lakh tonnes of sugar by crushing 891.01 lakh tonnes of sugarcane till April 6, 2022. UP sugar mills had produced 110.59 lakh tonnes of sugar by crushing 1027.50 lakh tonnes of sugarcane in the last season.
Mills from Maharashtra and Karnataka have done exceptionally well in sugar production this season. According to the Indian Sugar Mills Association (ISMA), sugar mills in Maharashtra have produced 118.81 lakh tonnes of sugar till March 31, 2022, as against 100.47 lakh tonnes during the same period last season. Similarly, sugar mills in Karnataka have produced 57.65 lakh tonnes of sugar this season till March 31, 2022, as against 42.38 lakh tonnes of sugar during the same period last season.
