Kolhapur : Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghatana, an organization fighting for the rights of sugarcane farmers is on the verge of splitting, reports The Hindu.
SSS president and former MP Raju Shetti has denied that the organization is on the verge of a split. The issue has surfaced since Ravikant Tupkar, a close aide of Mr. Shetti and the prominent leader of the organization openly criticized the style of functioning of Shetti in a recent public meeting. Following this Shetti called a meeting of the party disciplinary committee in Pune on August 8 to resolve the issue with Tupkar.
Tupkar did not attend the meeting and was busy in Buldhana district where he has sizable followers. He has denied rumors of joining BJP or any other party and said, “There is no point in attending a meeting when Shetti knows the facts for the last four-five years. This is not a recent issue.”
