Sugarcane Farmers Stage Protest;Urge To Waive Off Farmers’ Loans

27 March 2018, Mysuru: Sugarcane Growers’ Association members staged a protest in front of Deputy Commissioner’s office here, alleging that they are not provided with minimum support price for the crop.They also attempted to lay siege to the DC’s office on Tuesday. However, the police intervened to thwart the farmers who attempted siege on the DC’s office

Though there is a production of sugar at 11%, Bannari Amman and Mahadeshwara sugarcane factories were not providing minimum support price for the crops. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has neglected the sugarcane growers and no adequate water has been supplied to the farmers from Kabini Dam, said the protesters.

They urged for implementation of Dr M S Swaminathan Commission report to waive off the loans of all the farmers. (KS, NGB)
