Sugarcane farmers threaten to launch an agitation for pending cane dues

Lucknow: Sugarcane farmers launch ed protest against Mahmudabad co-operative sugar mill in Sitapur district over the delay in sugarcane payments reports Newsclick.

The mill has not yet cleared the pending cane dues worth Rs 15 crore though the crushing season ended earlier this month, said farmers.
As per the rules, the farmers should get their payments within 14 days of the purchase of the cane.

We have been protesting for nearly one month but the government is not paying attention to the plight of farmers, they said.

“Farmers are forced to launch an agitation for pending cane dues every year. Farmers need money to meet their expenses. We get only assurance but not payment. Now we have decided to launch a massive protest on July 15 for the payment,” said Ambuj Srivastava, district secretary of Kisan Manch.
