Sugarcane grown on two acres gutted along with harvester near Arakkonam

Ranipet, Arakkonam: Sugarcane is grown on more than two acres and a sugarcane harvester was gutted after the machine touched the electric lines passing over the field in Chitheri village near Arakkonam town, reports The Hindu.

According to police N. Srinivasan, a farmer in Vada Kolathur hamlet of Chithri village has brought a harvester to harvest cane grown on six acres of his land. While operating, the driver of the harvester identified as A Nelson moved the arm of the machine upwards which accidentally hit the electric lines above. Nelson saw smoke from the machine and jumped from the harvester immediately which was completely gutted later on.

Following the alert, the firefighters from Sholingur and Arakkonam rushed to the spot and doused the fire.
