Sugarcane truck drivers hold protest against toll fee collection

Mysore: The truck drivers and farmers under the banner of Bannari Amman Sugar Factory Lorry Owners Association launched a protest on Wednesday night at a toll plaza on Mysuru-Nanjangud highway for toll fee collection.

They withdrew protest after the NHAI authorities assured them that a discount toll fee of Rs. 40 would be charged for a sugarcane-laden truck and no toll would be collected for empty trucks. Heavy traffic jams were witnessed on the highway for a brief period during the demonstration.

According to the news report published in Starofmysore.com, Rajshekhar, secretary of the organization said, “No toll fee was being collected from trucks transporting agriculture produce at any Toll Plaza in the State except at Kadakola Toll Plaza on Mysuru-Nanjangud Road. When farmers are already suffering financial losses due to Covid-19, how they can pay the toll fee.”
