Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghatana to hold sugarcane convention on November 2

Kolhapur: Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghatana (SSS) will be organizing its 19th sugarcane convention on November 2 at Jaysingpur town in Hatkanangale taluka of Kolhapur district.

Addressing the media, SSS leader and former MP Raju Shetti said that he has already written a letter to chief minister Uddhav Thackeray to grant him permission to organize a convention.

The sugarcane convention organized by SSS is one of the major annual events for the cane farmers where they decide the future course of action and the rates to be given by sugar mills.

He said, “The convention’s objective is to fix the Fair and Remunerative Price(FRP)’s first installment for the sugarcane produce. The time has come for taking to legal recourse as well as agitation, because sugarcane producers are being forced to sign on blank papers for conceding to accept the FRP in installments.”
