According to the news report published in The Times of India, in a formal correspondence on Wednesday, July 12, 2023, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin reached out to Union Minister of Textiles, Commerce & Industry, Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Piyush Goyal. In his letter, Chief Minister Stalin made a request for the allocation of 10,000 metric tons (MT) each of wheat and tur dal per month from the Central stock. The purpose of this allocation would be to sell these essential food items through cooperative outlets, to manage the escalating prices, as stated by the Chief Minister.
Additionally, CM urged the Union Minister to expedite the Union government’s efforts in importing these products, considering the shortfall in domestic production. Recognizing the concerning trends observed in food inflation, the Chief Minister emphasized the need for prompt action from the Union Minister to assist state governments in alleviating the impact on consumers.
