Tamil Nadu: Demand to clear sugarcane dues

Chennai, Tamil Nadu: On the recent sights of Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami entering in paddy fields and riding on a bullock cart, S. Venkatesan, general secretary of the Federation of Tamil Nadu and Pondy state Private Sugarmill Cane Growers’ Association said that mere imitating like farmer won’t help in resolving their problems.

Venkatesan, said, “The Chief Minister should ensure that the farmers get the minimum statutory price for paddy at regulated markets operated by the Commissionerate of Agricultural Marketing and Agri Business and also sugar mills should clear sugarcane dues.”

“The symbolic gestures are not enough and they won’t help in addressing farmers’ plight. The chief minister should come out with substantive actions to address the cane farmers issues,” he further added.
