Tamil Nadu: Ethanol plant to come up at Cheyyar

Coimbatore: A few industrial groups in Tiruppur are set to make investments in textile related activities and the energy sector, reported The Hindu.

Notably, a couple of companies formalized their commitment by signing Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) during the recent Global Investors’ Meet (GIM) held in Chennai.

As per media report,  A. Sakthivel, Chairman of the Poppys Group, stated plans to set up a grain-based ethanol plant at Cheyyar with an outlay of ₹300 crores. The group’s MoU with the Tamil Nadu government during GIM underscores its commitment to the ethanol sector. The plant, scheduled to be commissioned by mid-2025, will possess a daily production capacity of 200 kilolitres of ethanol, sourced from grains across various states, employing 500 individuals.

These initiatives showcase a growing momentum towards ethanol production in the region, aligning with the broader national goals of promoting green fuel and sustainable energy practices.
