Tamil Nadu government announces sanction of Rs 150 per tonne in ‘special incentive’ to sugarcane farmers

Chennai: Tamil Nadu government has decided to sanction Rs 150 per tonne for sugarcane crop as a “special incentive” keeping in view the welfare of farmers.

As per the news report published in Hindu.com, Agriculture Minister M.R.K. Panneerselvam during his speech in the Assembly made the announcement stating that this will be a ‘special incentive’ for the cane farmers.

The money will be credited directly into the account of the sugarcane farmers’ bank accounts who supply sugar for the 2020-21 crushing season, he said.

“The provision we have made will help farmers get Rs 2,900 per tonne as cane price,” he said. The State government has allocated ₹Rs 138.83 crore during 2021-22 for the benefit of one lakh sugarcane farmers.
