Tamil Nadu: Sugarcane crushing starts at MR Krishnamurthy co-operative sugar mill

Cuddalore: Cane-crushing operations commenced at the M.R. Krishnamurthy co-operative sugar mill in Sethiyathope, Cuddalore district, on Wednesday, reported The Hindu.

Officials stated that the objective is to crush around 2.15 lakh tonnes of sugarcane, cultivated across about 9,500 acres in Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, and Ariyalur districts, at the mill. Farmers are slated to receive ₹2,919 per tonne of cane.

As per media report, to incentivize members of the co-operative society who registered and participated in cane crushing during the 2022-23 season, an additional incentive of ₹195 per tonne was issued. The inauguration of cane-crushing at the mill was conducted by the Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, M.R.K. Panneerselvam, with the presence of Principal Secretary C. Vijayaraj Kumar and Collector A. Arun Thamburaj.
