Tanzania mulls to set up sugar mills to reduce the import

The Tanzanian government is the feeling the need to set up sugar mills to reduce the sugar import. The government has asked the confederation of Tanzania Industries to work on this.

Angellah Kairuki, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office (Investment), said that Tanzania does not have a single sugar mill and the stakeholders would be likely to reap the benefit of producing it locally rather than importing it.

According to the media reports, Subhash Patel, CTI chairman, said to set up sugar mills huge finance is required and there is uncertainty about the return.
