Thailand may witness 10 million tonnes sugar production this season

After two years of low output, sugar production in Thailand is likely to increase in the current season over good yield following favourable weather, reports Bloomberg.

Thailand is one of the top sugar exporters in the world and the output was affected due to drought in the country in the last two seasons.

According to the Thai Sugar Millers Corp., the output is likely to reach 10 million tonnes by March 31. The sugar mills have produced 9.6 million tonnes of sugar by crushing 87.75 million tons of cane so far.

The sugar output last season was 66.7 million tonnes and this season it is expected to rise by 35% to 90 million tons, the group said.

Sirivuthi Siamphakdee, an executive at the Millers Corp, said that the country is likely to export 70% of the sugar output and the remaining will be used for domestic consumption.
