Three Sugar Mills To Function Soon: UP govt

Two sugar mills each in Piparaich and Munderwa of Eastern Uttar Pradesh will become functional soon while Manjhola Sugar mill be run on PPP model in the time to come, this was announced by Uttar Pradesh government on Thursday .
In order to promote Khandsari units, the government has relaxed the Khandsari policy and number of its units be increased in the time to come.

This was stated by Sugarcane Minister Suresh Singh Rana while briefing the newsmen here on Thursday. He informed that the farmers are now not require license for producing Jaggery and Rab for self use by vertical crusher and power driven vertical crusher. “No GST is applicable on Jaggery and Khandsari manufacturers. “The power given to state under Sugarcane control order, the word Gur is being removed from UP Khandsari License Order and UP Sugarcane Control Order and due to it all Gur manufacturing crushers and power crushers will be free from licenses and development commission,” he announced.

He said the government was aimed at all round development of Gur and development commission and also will help in proper disposal of cane of farmers. “The decision will encourage the development of Khandsari in the state and will create a new job opportunities in the rural area besides timely disposal of excess sugarcane available with the farmers due to increased production,” he said.

The minister said sugarcane produce had increased in the state with UP is producing 102 lakh ton produce presently. He said the government was thinking on running the cooperative mills by providing technical help to increase the crush capacity of these sugar mills. “There are some Sugar mills, like one in Chhata, which have become like ‘white elephants’ for the government and the government was thinking to do something concrete in this direction,” he said.

The minister said the government was planning to export the sugar due to excess produce in the state. “The government was also improving the molasses policy also we are looking for the alternatives of Ethanol one like practiced in Brazil and the government was mulling over a pilot project in this direction,” he said.

About arrears of sugarcane growers, he said the government had paid Rs 18327 crore to sugar cane growers in financial year 2017-18 and the target is to pay Rs 18881 crore to sugarcane growers in financial year 2018-19. Replying to a question that the arrears for current fiscal was high, he said this year the state had excess crushing and that was why the counts were high. “It will reduce after the payment for the current fiscal was completed,’ he said.
