Ukraine: Sugar producer Astarta starts sowing beet for 2023 season

Kyiv: Major sugar producer from Ukraine, Astarta, has begun beet sowing for the 2023 season, the company has informed, reports Reuters.

The company is expecting to sow around 39,000 hectares of sugar beet this season.

The area under sugar beet could rise to 220,000 hectares this year from 181,400 hectares in 2022, said the Ukrainian sugar union Ukrtsukor.
The beet sowing first began in the central Ukrainian region of Poltava, said the company.

According to analysts, Ukraine has refined around 1 million tonnes of sugar in 2022 from 9.7 million tonnes of harvested sugar beet. In 2023, the farmers could harvest 11.3 million tonnes of sugar beet, forecasts from the agriculture ministry.
