Union Minister Nitin Gadkari urges Maharashtra CM to provide subsidy on sugarcane harvesters

New Delhi: Union Minister for Road and Transport Nitin Gadkari has urged Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde to make sugarcane harvesters available by providing subsidy.

In a letter written to Shinde, Gadkari states that the state is likely to witness record sugarcane output in the upcoming season and there is likely to be a shortage of labourers to harvest the cane. Keeping this in mind, the government should take steps to make sugarcane harvesters available by providing subsidy for stakeholders ahead of crushing season commencement to avoid any inconvenience.

“Earlier centre used to grant a subsidy to purchase sugarcane harvesters but the government has stopped this scheme and now state government should come forward and grant subsidy to purchase harvesters,” Minister further added in letter.

Gadkari said that the chief minister should take initiative to ensure that sufficient numbers of cane harvesters are accessible for harvesting the crop during the crushing season.
