UP govt gives nod to biogas-biodiesel projects worth Rs 550 crore

Lucknow: The government of Uttar Pradesh has approved a dozen private sector bioenergy projects, collectively valued at Rs 550 crore, further enriching the state’s renewable energy portfolio, reported Business Standard.

These projects are set to facilitate the production of over 90 tonnes of compressed biogas (CBG) and 44 kilolitres (kl) of biodiesel daily throughout the state. The bioenergy projects were approved by a state-level committee headed by Additional Chief Secretary Mahesh Gupta.

Expressing enthusiasm for the state’s commitment to green energy, Gupta affirmed, “The state is vigorously pushing green energy, and the private sector is attracted by the immense potential in this sector.”

Anticipations are high that bioenergy production will not only help mitigate the environmental harm resulting from stubble burning, particularly crop residue but also provide a sustainable source of income for farmers.
